Soldiers dead in Afghanistan

'Two British soldiers killed by a bomb blast in Afghanistan have been named as Lieutenant David Boyce and Lance Corporal Richard Scanlon from 1st The Queen's Dragoons Guards.
Boyce, 25, from Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, and Scanlon, 31, from Rhymney, Gwent, died on Thursday when their armoured vehicle struck a makeshift bomb in Helmand province.
They had been providing security in the Yakchal region of Nahr-e-Saraj when they were caught in the explosion.
The pair died while serving with the Brigade Reconnaissance Force.
Boyce's family said he "brought sunshine into the lives of all those he knew" while Scanlon's comrades paid tribute to a "genuine regimental character".
The men, who had been tasked with securing the routes passing through the district, had only been in Afghanistan for a few weeks before they were killed'

These two articles published by 'The Guardian' show the recent deaths in Afghanistan - 3 soldiers in less than a week, killed in action. The deaths takes the number of British troops who have died since operations in Afghanistan began in 2001 to 389. I think that this helps show the scale of war and the damage it does to so many people, not only the soldiers themselves but also the grieving familes back home
