Digipak Cover Research

You Me At Six
This album for the band You Me At Six is bright and colourful which represents the kind of band that they are. Although they are a pop/rock band they use quite a lot of colour in their music videos, which makes the album and the videos link together well. The front cover is abstract, showing that the band like to be different rather than having a photograph of themselves on the front, like most pop bands do. I think that both pop and rock are represented in the album, the dark green background represents the rock side of the band and the bright colours on the album as the pop side. The name of the band is capitalized and centered, making it stand out from the background. The image on the cover is interesting which helps to sell the band as it makes them stand out.

Fall Out Boy
I think that the front cover of this album is appropriate for a rock band as it's not a 'normal' sort of front cover, it's 'out there' which a lot of rock bands try to portray themselves as. The stuffed sheep with wings is very strange which would probably attract people to the album when in a shop to see why this image was on the cover. The album also has a photograph of all four members  This helps to sell the artist. I think the use of dark blue for the background on all parts of the album represent the darker side of rock music, making it an appropriate colour for a rock album.

Paramore
I don't think that this album really represents a rock band, as it is quite simple with light colours (blue & creme) therefore I think that the album looks more like it would be for an Indie band than a rock band like Paramore. I don't know why the Butterfly was chosen for the album as there aren't any songs on the album that relate to butterflies. There isn't a photograph of the band any where on the album. Unlike many other rock albums the font is in lower case and is rounded and has some in cursive, which is strange for a rock album as from my research I found that most rock albums have capitalized, bold fonts. It is unclear what genre of music this album is for, so I don't think that it does a very good job of selling the band.

My Chemical Romance
I think that out of all of the albums that I researched, this one was probably the best as a rock/emo album. The use of a black background with white text that juxtaposes the background was appropriate for the genre, it is also capitalized in a large font that really stands out. On both the front and the back cover of the alum there is a skeleton, and various different 'monsters' inside the album. Rock has connotations of 'darkness' so these 'dark' things seem appropriate for the album. It is very easy to tell what genre of music this album is for, therefore it would help to sell the band.

Eighth Wave
Out of all of the albums that I researched this one seems to be the weakest. I think that this is because the band don't really belong to a  definite genre of music. The are a signed band but are relatively unknown, meaning that they wouldn't have a budget as big for their album covers as a more well known band like 'Fall Out Boy' would. Therefore I think that this album would struggle to sell the band as the front cover doesn't really tell the audience what kinds of band they are.
